At the February NW Council meeting, the candidates for forthcoming Northwest
Vice Presidents were presented and allowed 3 minutes apiece to speak to the
NW Council. In order of appearance, they were: Tom McCarty (former SPEEA
Treasurer), Mark Schuetz (current NW VP), Joel Funfar (current NW Council
Chairman), Jill Ritchey (current NW VP), Mike Dunn (former SPEEA Treasurer),
and Larry Marrell (current NW VP). Funfar, Ritchey, and Dunn are running as
a reform slate and delivered a 9-minute coordinated presentation, in three
parts. They were well received.
On the filing date deadline for the 2007 Executive Board elections, Joel
Funfar (current Northwest Council Chairman), Jill Ritchey (current NW VP),
and Mike Dunn (former SPEEA Treasurer) declared their candidacies for
Northwest Vice President.
At the May NW Council meeting, ballots were cast to fill a Northwest Vice President vacancy resulting from the election of Cynthia Cole to SPEEA President. Mike Dunn received a plurality on the first ballot but lost the second ballot to Mark Schuetz, 39 to 36, when those voting for Tom McCarty shifted their support to Schuetz.

Robert Wilkerson, formerly NW Council Chairman has been elected to the position of SPEEA Executive Board Treasurer. David Baine, member of the 2005 Prof. Negotiations Team, has been elected to the position of the SPEEA Executive Board Secretary. Cynthia Cole, who is not associated with The Dedicated To The Union, has been elected to the position of the Executive Board President.
The election received press coverage in The Seattle Times. Those who are opposed to the democratic progress in SPEEA start their dirty attacks on SPEEA Talk Forum.
It has come to our attention the March Spotlite magazine, which somehow has been delayed this month and should be arriving at your mailbox shortly, has an error in it regarding the specific time on 3/22/06 when your ballots have to be at the Post Office or SPEEA HQ. The March Spotlite states the time to be 5:00pm while all other election notices, the ballot instructions and the Constitution state 12:00pm (Noon). Once again, we have another faux pas. We continue to wonder how can these anomalies happen ................ We recommend you vote for us and send a strong message via your ballot. Be sure to send it as soon as possible.
In his post on the SPEEA Talk, SPEEA Treasures Tom McCarty states that he "dosen't care particularly care what you think, what his boss thinks, what his kids think, what his wife thinks, what Charlie thinks, what the council officers think, what the members think..." Please read the post to get understanding of SPEEA Treasurer's position.
